Moisten the rim of a cocktail glass with the lime and dip the outer rim in the graham cracker crumbs. Chill the glass for at least 30 minutes. Combine liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker with cracked ice and shake well. Strain into prepared martini glass and garnish with key lime slice.

An Interesting Theory

H.L. Mencken usually drank beer but made an exception when he spent an evening with prominent New Yorker Philip Goodman. When Mencken came up to New York from Baltimore, he and Goodman would go to a speakeasy in Union City, New Jersey, and eat a dinner of knockwurst, boiled beef, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, and cheesecake. They would wash this down with several beers and coffees. They would then return to Manhattan, stop at a restaurant on West Forty-Fourth Street, have more cheesecake and some strudel, and more coffee and more beer. They would always end the evening by having double martinis. Goodman believed that the gin aided digestion—that it “oxidized” the food.
